"Do networking" can be an overwhelming piece of advice.

Here are few lists I made to help you actually execute.

Types of people I network with:

  • Program managers
  • Co-workers
  • Friends of employees
  • Clients
  • Former clients
  • Other GovCon business owners
  • Recruiters

Types of questions I ask:

  • If you were in my shoes, what do you think I should do?
  • What are you looking for in your next job?
  • Is there anyone else you think I should talk to?
  • What's going on at work?
  • Where do you need help?
  • Would you be okay tagging up again?

How I network:

  • E-mail
  • Coffee outside of work
  • Coffee break during work
  • Phone call
  • Zoom call
  • Happy Hour
  • Dinner
  • Casual "water cooler" chat

What I avoid:

  • Large conferences and networking events
    • Note: Not bad, just doesn't suit my personality.
